Goya Sponsoring New York Yankees

SECAUCUS, N.J. -- Leading Hispanic-owned food company Goya Foods here is sponsoring the New York Yankees, a marketing move that reflects the increasing intersection of Hispanic culture and America's favorite pastime.

The seasonlong sponsorship, which Goya announced last week, includes a permanent porch sign in left field at Yankee Stadium, a promotional day on July 31, and the operation of a Latino food concession stand called "Salsa on the Go," featuring food made with Goya products and ingredients.

Goya noted that the endeavor is indicative of the growing popularity of Latino food and culture in all aspects of the American experience.

"Given the tremendous contributions that Latino players and their fans have made to America's favorite pastime, the pairing of Latino food with baseball is a home run," said Robert Unanue, president of Goya Foods, in a statement.

"Salsa on the Go," located at the food court on field level, section 20, will feature a variety of freshly prepared Latin American favorites, including Cuban sandwiches with plantain chips, chicken in salsa with rice and beans, beef or cheese empanadas, sweet plantains, and beverages in flavors like mango, passionfruit, and guava.
