GMA/FPA Taps Deloitte Consulting for Environmental Sustainability Report

WASHINGTON -- The Grocery Manufacturers Association and Food Products Association (GMA/FPA) here said yesterday that it had chosen Deloitte Consulting, LLP to produce a report on practices in sustainability for the consumer packaged goods industry.

Deloitte will conduct an analysis of the corporate environmental landscape, assess emerging retailer expectations, and cite successful examples of environmental sustainability management. The report will be GMA/FPA's first research effort.

"The food, beverage, and consumer packaged goods industry has had a strong and long-lasting commitment to environmental preservation, and many companies have developed creative and cost-effective policies and programs that have a tremendous impact on our environment," said GMA/FPA s.v.p. of industry affairs Stephen Sibert in a statement. "We have asked Deloitte to capture the breadth of this activity and identify successful practices, with the goal of expanding and improving upon those activities, and encouraging other industries to adopt similar practices."

The report's goal is to provide industry executives knowledge and insight into retailer sustainability programs and policies. As the government increases its regulations on environmental sustainability, the initiative will offers industry professionals the opportunity to share insights into emerging strategies, according to the trade associations.
