GMA/FPA Names V.P. of International Affairs

WASHINGTON - The Grocery Manufacturers/Food Products Association (GMA/FPA) said yesterday it appointed Emily S. Beizer has been v.p. of international affairs for the organization.

It is a new v.p.-level position at GMA/FPA, association spokesman Scott Openshaw told Progressive Grocer. Sarah Thorn, the organization's senior director of international affairs, has left to accept a position at Wal-Mart, he added.

"Having worked closely with Ms. Beizer when she was my legislative director/deputy chief of staff during my time in the U.S. Congress, I know her to be a consummate professional," said president and c.e.o. Cal Dooley in a statement. "Her governmental and policy expertise, along with her relationships with decision-makers and her command of the international trade arena, makes her the perfect choice to help GMA/FPA accomplish its goals on behalf of its members."

Most recently Beizer was senior policy advisor, government, and global trade for Mayer, Brown, Rowe & Maw LLP, where she provided government affairs and policy consulting to clients including Fortune 500 companies, in the areas of international trade, market access, intellectual property, agriculture, financial services, media, and energy policy.

She has also developed and implemented comprehensive strategies to address market barriers confronting clients in Asia, Europe, Latin America, and other foreign markets, as well as given advice on bilateral and multilateral international trade negotiations. Beizer has also served as assistant U.S. trade representative for congressional affairs within the Executive Office of the President, Office of the U.S. Trade Representative, where she was a principal liaison to the Congress for the U.S. Trade Representative.

Beizer will head up GMA/FPA initiatives on international business, trade, and its regulatory agenda. She will additionally network with key individuals and audiences to bolster the association's international relationships and enhance its ability to promote global objectives in facing global challenges.

GMA/FPA represents the world's top food, beverage, and consumer products companies, with a board of directors comprising c.e.o.'s from the association's member companies.
