GMA Boosts Staff for Center for Technical and Laboratory Services

WASHINGTON -- GMA has named Shannon Cole director, analytical chemistry, and Glenn Black director, processing technologies for the association’s Center for Technical and Laboratory Services (CTLS).

"GMA, its member companies, and the entire food, beverage and consumer packaged goods industry will benefit greatly from their demonstrated expertise and impressive academic backgrounds," noted GMA president and c.e.o. Cal Dooley.

Cole joins GMA from Sandia Labs in Albuquerque N.M., where she served as laboratory technologist/team leader for research. She has experience with plastics chemistry and has worked in the nonfoods industry as a cosmetic chemist.

Black, who will join CTLS in January 2008, has food industry experience from his process engineering work at Unilever/Slim Fast Foods, and he gained equipment expertise at Stork Food Machinery. His master’s work included aseptic processing technology, and his Ph.D. program looked at modeling of pathogen destruction in various food processing systems and environments.

Cole and Black will manage and direct staff and programs in the areas of analytical chemistry and processing technologies, respectively. Both will report to Jeffrey Barach, v.p. and center director CTLS.
