Giant/Martin’s Raises $550k-plus for Kids’ Hospitals

Giant/Martin’s annual in-store paper balloon campaign in support of Children’s Miracle Network (CMN) Hospitals has raised a record $553,616 this year. From June 24 through July 7, customers could buy a paper CMN balloon at the checkout for a $1 donation.

“Our customers and associates’ compassion to the cause of helping the youngest members of our community is why Giant/Martin’s continues to rank among CMN’s top-10 fundraisers in the country,” said Jeff Beaulieu, VP of sales and merchandising at the Carlisle, Pa.-based division of Ahold USA. “[Customers’] recordbreaking donations are making a difference as thousands of kids throughout the regions we serve continue to fight for good health.”

Shoppers can still show their support for the cause by purchasing a limited-edition reusable CMN bag now in stores while supplies last. The grocer will donate 10 cents from the sale of every bag sold to benefit local CMN Hospitals throughout its market area.

Since 1996, Giant/Martin’s has raised more than $25 million in support of children’s hospitals in the Harrisburg, Philadelphia, Danville/Altoona, Pa.; Baltimore; Washington, D.C.; and Richmond, Va., areas.

Giant/Martin’s operates almost 200 grocery stores in Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia and West Virginia, under the Giant Food Stores and Martin’s Food Markets banners, employing more than 31,000 associates.
