Giant/Martin’s Aids Troops

6/6/2014

Customers and associates at Giant Food Stores and Martin’s Food Markets have donated $560,194 through the Ahold USA chains' annual "Support Our Troops" campaign. Since the fundraising program’s inception in 2005, the banners' shoppers and employees have donated more than $3 million to aid regional USOs and the Wounded Warrior Project (WWP).

"Giant/Martin's is grateful for the service and sacrifice of our veterans and active soldiers, and we will continue to do all we can to be a better neighbor to them and their loved ones," said Tom Lenkevich, the division's president, adding that the campaign is "our way of saying thanks for all that these men and women have done for us."

Held May 4-17, Support Our Troops enabled customers to donate $1 at checkout to benefit regional USO chapters, which offer programs that build morale and keep soldiers connected to their families, and the WWP, which honors and empowers severely injured servicemen and -women.

Carlisle, Pa.-based Giant/Martin's operates nearly 200 grocery stores in Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia and West Virginia, under the Giant Food Stores and Martin's Food Markets banners, employing more than 31,000 associates.
