Giant to Raise $1 Million for Children's Cancer Foundation

LANDOVER, Md. -- Giant Food of Landover here said it intends to raise $1 million to help fight childhood cancer in its marketing area, through an in-store promotional program called Triple Winner that will run from April 17 to July 2.

Triple Winner is a scratch card promotion in which every ticket purchased provides three ways to win an instant prize of either a free product, a gift card or cash up to $10,000, the chain said. The program allows customers who make a $1 donation in any Giant or Super G banner store. All money raised from the program will directly benefit the Children's Cancer Foundation, a charity committed to raising funds for research and treatment of cancers that affect children. Giant has been the foundation's largest corporate supporter for more than a quarter century.

"We are proud of our long-standing commitment to the fight against childhood cancer," said Bill Holmes, Giant's e.v.p and g.m. "We are all impacted when a young child is diagnosed with cancer."

Giant's sister company, the Stop & Shop Supermarket Company, will also launch Triple Winner on April 17th in all of its 300 stores located throughout Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, New Hampshire, New York and New Jersey. Stop & Shop has raised more than $28 million for pediatric cancer research and care over the past 15 years. Both chains are part of the Ahold USA group.
