Giant-Landover Location Goes 24/7
The Baltimore City Giant on 41st Street is now open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. A former Fresh & Green’s location acquired by Landover, Md.-based Giant Food LLC in February, the 48,500-square-foot store held its grand-opening celebration at the end of March, following renovations to meet the Ahold USA division’s standards.
“Over Giant’s 75-year history, we’ve always been committed to providing our customers the highest levels of quality, value and service,” explained store manager Nick Hyson. “We recognize that our shoppers have varied schedules, and operating our store 24 hours a day is just another convenience we’re proud to offer our Baltimore customers.”
Among the store’s features are full-service floral, meat, and seafood departments, the last with a live-lobster tank; a large selection of produce, organic and gluten-free items; an international section offering a variety of Hispanic, Italian and Asian products; a bakery section providing such fresh baked goods as Giant’s exclusive lines of Madelyn cakes and lattice pies; a large service deli with wide variety of prepared foods, gourmet cheeses, sandwiches, and a soup and salad bar; and sushi prepared fresh in-store.
In-store technologies include SCAN IT! hand-held devices that enable customers to scan and bag groceries while they shop ,and an ORDER IT! deli kiosk at which customers can digitally place deli orders, continue shopping and pick up orders when an alert is received.
Giant operates 173 supermarkets in Virginia, Maryland, Delaware, and the District of Columbia, employing about 22,000 associates.
