Giant-Landover Heads Back to the Speedway

Based on its popularity last fall, Giant’s Speedway Supermarket is revving up once more for NASCAR fans in Dover, Del. On May 11, Stacy Wiggins, district director at Landover, Md.-based Giant Food LLC. and Mark Rossi, VP of sales & marketing at Dover Motorsports Inc., will cut the ribbon to celebrate the opening of the temporary pop-up store at Dover International Speedway’s RV Lot 10 for the May 13-15 race weekend.

At the ribbon cutting, Giant will present a check to USO Delaware for $3,220. To mark its 75th anniversary, the Ahold USA banner is celebrating a decade a month, and in March celebrated the 40s by teaming up with the organization to support military families across the D.C. region.

With hours from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. through Sunday, May 15, the Giant Speedway Supermarket will feature more than 2,500 items, offering NASCAR fans easy access for tailgate shopping. Among the products offered will be hot dogs, hamburgers, coleslaw, potato salad, buns, chips, cookies, and beverages; perishables including meat, deli, produce, seafood and bakery items; prepared foods; and such health and beauty care products as sunscreen and toothpaste.

On Saturday and Sunday morning, the General Mills #33 car will be on display in front of the store, and shoppers will be able to meet driver Clint Bowyer on Saturday from 9 to 9:30 a.m.

Customers will also have the chance to win lap passes, action figures, posters, autographed merchandise and other race-related goodies by entering raffles at the supermarket.

NASCAR races include Friday’s Lucas Oil NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race, Saturday’s 200-mile 5-Hour Energy NASCAR Nationwide Series race and Sunday’s FedEx 400 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race.

Giant operates 177 supermarkets in Virginia, Maryland, Delaware and the District of Columbia, and employs about 22,000 associates. Included within the 177 stores are 162 full-service pharmacies.
