Giant Eagle Pumps Up GetGo Network With Four CoGo's Units
PITTSBURGH -- Giant Eagle based here said it will add more fuel to its fast growing GetGo convenience store subsidiary, with the acquisition of four CoGo's convenience stores.
The region's grocery market share leader says it will convert the four locations to the GetGo banner quickly in order to implement its highly successful fuelperks! discount program by the end of this week. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Giant Eagle launched its grocery/gas concept in July 2002 and currently operates over 60 total GetGo locations in Pennsylvania and Ohio -- some 40 of which are adjacent to supermarkets while another 21 are stand-alone units. The GetGo brand is owned by Crossroads Convenience LLC, a joint venture of Giant Eagle and Guttman Enterprises, a subsidiary of Belle Vernon, Pa.-based Guttman Oil Co.
In other news, a replacement Giant Eagle store in the Shadyside neighborhood of Pittsburgh will anchor the first project in Pittsburgh that combines condominiums with a supermarket, according to local reports.
The $45 million project will include construction of 54 condominiums above the store, which will nearly quadruple the size of Giant Eagle's existing 18,000-square-foot unit to more than 70,000-square-feet, with completion expected next spring. The five-story structure, called Market House, is expected to be available for occupancy in late February or early March, according to the report.
