Giant Eagle to Implement Manhattan Associates' Supply Chain Execution Solutions

ATLANTA - Manhattan Associates Inc., provider of supply chain execution (SCE) solutions, today announced that Pittsburgh-based retailer Giant Eagle has selected its suite of SCE solutions.

Manhattan Associates' Warehouse Management System (WMS) and Trading Partner Management (TPM) system, combined with its business intelligence, slotting optimization and labor management tools, will assist Giant Eagle with streamlining its distribution processes, reducing inventory levels and gaining real-time visibility across its supply chain.

"We selected Manhattan Associates as a result of its comprehensive solutions, providing us with the real-time supply chain visibility we need to manage our business successfully," said Giant Eagle senior VP of distribution, Larry Baldauf. "The SCE software will help us achieve three major objectives: more efficiently meet our customer's needs and demands, reduce inventory levels across the supply chain and improve communications with our supplier base. In addition, we are very impressed with Manhattan Associates' early commitment to RFID, a key driver to achieving even greater levels of supply chain efficiency and productivity."

Giant Eagle plans to implement Manhattan Associates' SCE solutions, operating on an IBM RS6000 using Manhattan Associates' N-tier architecture. The technology will eventually be deployed at the five Giant Eagle distribution centers (DCs), with the first site scheduled to go live in the second quarter of 2004. These centers, which range in size from 75,000 square feet to more than one million square feet, consist of Health, Beauty & Cosmetics; Meat; Frozen Products; and two Dry/Perishable facilities.

Gaining access to real-time supply chain information will assist Giant Eagle with managing its DCs, the network as a whole and its supplier base more effectively and efficiently. In addition, Giant Eagle will gain comprehensive reporting capabilities and an auto alerting system that will notify key members of management to relevant changes in operations. Finally, through the use of Manhattan Associates' TPM solution, Giant Eagle's suppliers can begin using Advance Ship Notices (ASNs) and corresponding bar coded shipping labels that will aid in automating and streamlining Giant Eagle's own receiving processes as well as providing visibility to orders in the supply chain.
