Giant Eagle to Bow First Walk-in Health Clinic

Residents of southwestern Allegheny County and east central Washington County in western Pennsylvania now have a new option for convenient, walk-in care that will be provided through a partnership between Monongahela Valley Hospital and the Finleyville Giant Eagle supermarket.

Healthy Directions Exclusively at Giant Eagle is an appointment-free, walk-in site designed to accommodate the health care needs of today’s busy families. A first in the greater Pittsburgh region for both partners, Healthy Directions will be staffed by certified registered nurse practitioners under the direction of MVH-affiliated physicians. They will provide diagnoses and treatments for non-urgent illnesses and conditions in people ages 18 months and older.

“Our partnership with Monongahela Valley Hospital takes our commitment to overall consumer health and wellness to a new level,” said Randy Heiser, Giant Eagle pharmacy VP. “This new health care site provides Giant Eagle customers with fast and consistent access to a wide range of common medical services to accelerate their road to wellness. It creates options that help to avoid costly trips to the emergency room and provide access to care when their own doctor’s offices are closed. As an added convenience, we can also meet customers’ prescription needs if they choose our on-site Giant Eagle pharmacy.”

The site builds on Giant Eagle’s ongoing initiative to offer a broader range of health, beauty and wellness services, products and education via expanded in-store health and wellness departments. Giant Eagle customers have reacted well to the company’s other similar sites in Ohio and West Virginia.

“For nearly 20 years, the local community has trusted the staff of Healthy Directions in Finleyville to provide routine health screenings and education programs to help them stay well,” said Louis J. Panza Jr., MVH president and CEO. “Once it relocates to the Giant Eagle on Route 88, Healthy Directions’ scope of services will expand along with its hours.”

The cost for a basic visit will be $59; physicals are $55. Healthy Directions will accept most insurance plans; Visa and MasterCard also will be accepted.

The clinic will offer laboratory services for blood and urine analysis, and will continue to offer health screenings such as blood pressure, glucose and cholesterol as well as health and education programs, led by doctors, nurses and community members. Programs are designed to help the community stay well and prevent illness. Healthy Directions’ staff also will be licensed to prescribe physical therapy treatments along with radiology services such as x-rays, ultrasound, mammography, CT scans and MRI procedures.

The opening of Finleyville Giant Eagle Healthy Directions site coincides with opening of the store’s renovated pharmacy, which now features a new drive-thru pharmacy.

Monongahela Valley Hospital is a 210-bed health care facility with a 225-member medical staff representing over 50 medical specialties.

Founded in 1931, Giant Eagle Inc. operates 170 corporate and 58 independently owned and operated supermarkets in addition to 165 fuel and convenience stores throughout western Pennsylvania, Ohio, north central West Virginia and Maryland.
