Giant-Carlisle's 'Living Here, Giving Here' Programs Raise Over $12M in 2007

CARLISLE, Pa. -- Giant Food Stores and Martin's Food Markets said last week that their 2007 charitable donations, given to beneficiaries of Giant's "Living Here, Giving Here" program that includes local hunger-related organizations, Children's Miracle Network hospitals, and local nonprofit groups, came to over $12.2 million in combined cash and product contributions.

"Giant is proud to be a company that lives and gives in the communities we serve and the communities where our associates reside," said Carl Schlicker, president and chief executive officer. "Because of [the] generosity [of customers, associates, and vendors,] 2007 marked another successful year of supporting such community needs as eradicating hunger and improving the quality of life for children."

Highlights of both Giant and Martin's community programs in 2007 were:
--Regional food banks: Local food banks in Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia, and West Virginia received almost $1.8 million in product, customer and corporate donations, including 1,000 Thanksgiving turkeys.
--Children's Miracle Network: A golf outing held at 10 courses in Pennsylvania, as well as $1 paper balloon and candle sales to customers, raised $1.7 million to benefit local Children's Miracle Network hospitals throughout Giant's operating areas.
