Giant-Carlisle/Martin’s Earns Its A+

For the 2010-2011 school year, Giant Food Stores and Martin’s Food Markets revealed that they have collected donations totaling more than $1.85 million for 1,872 public and private schools. Since 2005, the chains have donated $10 million to local schools through the “A+ School Rewards” program.

The program enables local schools to earn cash for scholarships, technology, sports equipment, field trips and other educational needs. Each time Giant and Martin’s customers shopped using their BonusCards from Oct. 10, 2010, through March 19, 2011, 1 percent of participating customers’ total purchases went to designated schools.

“Thank you to all of our customers who participated in this year’s A+ Schools Rewards program by registering and swiping their BonusCard to help local schools,” said Giant/Martin’s president Rick Herring.

For the third consecutive year, Cumberland Valley High School in Mechanicsburg, Pa., was the top school this year, amassing $17,162.99.
