Giant-Carlisle Opens Store in York, Pa. Today

CARLISLE, Pa. -- Giant Food Stores, LLC here is opening a new West Manchester Township store in York, Pa. today. The 72,000-square-foot unit replaces a 56,700-square-foot Giant Food that closed yesterday.

Company veteran Kevin McDonald, formerly the store manager of the old York store, will act in the same capacity at the new store.

Employing about 250 full- and part-time employees, the new store will offer many of the amenities of Giant Food's newer prototype units, such as the retailer's Nature's Promise organic and natural line, including the newly introduced Nature's Promise meats; and customer-friendly technology such as EasyShop hand-held devices, EasyScan self-checkouts, EasyWeigh scales, and Shopping Solutions kiosks.

Shoppers will also find at the store on-site gas pumps, an in-store pharmacy, an International Cheese Island, Bucks County Coffee, a wi-fi cafe, and The Tree House, an on-site supervised children's play area, the grocer said.

Giant Food, one of four retail-operating companies under Ahold USA, operates 103 Giant Food Stores, 119 Tops Markets, and 26 Martin's Food Markets. With almost 40,000 employees, Giant serves a six-state market area consisting of Pennsylvania, Maryland, New York, Virginia, West Virginia, and Ohio.
