Giant-Carlisle to Open Largest Pa. Store

CARLISLE, Pa. -- The store Giant Food Stores here plans to open March 5 in Willow Grove, Pa. is significant in several ways: Not only is it just the second Giant Super Food Store, but the 97,300-square-foot location will be the largest store operated by Giant in the state of Pennsylvania, as well as the first of its kind to open in the Greater Philadelphia region, the company said.

Built on the site of a former Home Depot, the store will employ about 475 full- and part-time associates and will operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Eleven-year Giant Food veteran Shawn McGrory will serve as manager.

"We hope to 'wow' our customers with new and exciting solutions to their busy lifestyles while offering affordable prices that our customers have come to expect from the Giant name," said McGrory. "Whether it's an on-site cooking school, an in-store nutritionist, a colorful child play area, or a strong emphasis on health and wellness, customers can expect a great new store with the same low prices."

Other state-of-the-industry amenities and supermarket technology include Giant's Nature's Promise brand of organic and natural products, along with information on leading healthier lifestyles; customer-friendly self-checkouts and interactive kiosks, a Grocery Valet to help load customers' groceries; a concierge to assist with party planning, a WiFi cafe with a gas fireplace, and a fully equipped community center that can be used by local organizations and community partners.

"This store will be unlike any grocery store this market has seen," added McGrory. "We hope to make the shopping experience easy and convenient for our customers while, at the same time, becoming a centerpiece in the community."

Giant Food Stores operates stores in Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia, and West Virginia under the Giant Food Stores, Martin's Food Markets, and FoodSource banners.
