Giant-Carlisle Names Corporate Nutritionist

CARLISLE, Pa. -- Giant Food Stores, LLC here has hired Sylvia Emberger, R.D., L.D.N., to be its corporate nutritionist. Emberger will be responsible for guiding Giant's health-and-wellness programming and overseeing Giant and Martin's Food Market's in-store nutritionists. She reports to Shirley Axe, acting manager for health and wellness.

The position isn't a new one, but has been recent vacantly, Giant Food Stores spokeswoman Tracy Pawelski told Progressive Grocer.

With over 30 years of experience in research, quality assurance, and clinical nutrition, Emberger most recently worked for The Hershey Co. at the Hershey Center for Health and Nutrition, where she dealt with nutrition labeling and nutrition profiling of products. She also worked as lecturer at Messiah College in Grantham, Pa. and as the lead dietitian for Messiah Village, a long-term care facility, where she created systems to track the nutritional status of nursing home and rehab residents.

Emberger is an active member of the American Dietetic Association, Dietitians in Business and Communications Practice Group, and Central Pa. Dietetics Association.
