German Retailer Edeka-Group to Install Enterprise-Wide Solution

HAMBURG, Germany - German-based grocery chain Edeka-Group plans to install an enterprise-wide technology solution to complete the current reorganization of its IT landscape and bundle its operational business processes with its new subsidiary Lunar GmbH.

The retailer will implement SAP for Retail solutions to accomplish the integration, as well as to develop a merchandise planning process, reduce IT operating costs, and support its growth through a service-oriented architecture. Lunar GmbH acts as the IT center of excellence for Edeka-Group and will be enlarged by up to 250 employees.

Edeka plans to use the SAP solution to maintain consistent quality regarding item numbers, master data, and product group structures. And since it is one system that spans the enterprise, the retailer expects it to ensure data transfer across all retail locations and regional subsidiaries.

Edeka will also install the SAP ERP application and NetWeaver technology platform to enhance its merchandise planning and control systems. In the future, the group's major business areas, which comprise the wholesale and the retail business, will be managed by SAP solutions.

The Edeka-Group operates more than 10,000 stores and has 253,000 associates. Its consists of three distribution channels: supermarkets, self-service department stores, and discount stores.
