Fuel AdvantEdge Program to Roll out in Connecticut Price Chopper Stores

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. -- Price Chopper here, in collaboration with 19 local Sunoco stations, is rolling out "Fuel AdvantEdge," an exclusive new program never before offered in the Connecticut marketplace.

The program, which debuts Oct. 26, is an ongoing, cumulative savings/reward program that gives customers a .10/gallon discount on gasoline purchases for every $50 of groceries purchased, .20/gallon on $100 purchased, .30/gallon on $150 purchased, and so on.

As a way to build added value into the Price Chopper AdvantEdge card, which already offers shoppers savings on groceries and general merchandise, the grocer will introduce Fuel AdvantEdge at five of its seven Connecticut locations. The stores are in Vernon, Waterbury, Bristol, Southington, and Newington.

In contract to other reward programs, Fuel AdvantEdge allows consumers to accumulate their points/dollars spent across a 90-day time frame and cash in on their gasoline discount for up to 20 gallons at their convenience, turning saved dimes into dollars.

"What better way to reward our customers for choosing Price Chopper than by offering them great prices at the supermarket that translate to significant savings at the gas pump?" said Price Chopper president and c.e.o. Neil Golub in a statement.

"We have customers saving 30, 40 cents -- even a dollar or more per gallon through the Fuel AdvantEdge program," added Jeff Hassman, channel marketing manager for Philadelphia-based Sunoco.

Participating Sunoco stations as of Oct. 26 are in Bristol, Southington, Manchester, Wethersfield, and Vernon, Conn., with additional locations slated to be participating by Thanksgiving. Some of the locations offer diesel fuel.

The family-owned Golub Corp. owns and operates more than 100 Price Chopper grocery stores in New York, Vermont, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, Connecticut, and New Hampshire. Golub's approximately 22,000 associates collectively own 55 percent of the company's privately held stock.
