FreshDirect Expands to Connecticut

FreshDirect now delivers to four communities in the Greenwich, Conn., area, and has doubled its presence in upstate Westchester County, N.Y. to 21 communities. With its entry into the Nutmeg state, the online grocer’s fresh food and grocery home delivery service now encompasses the tri-state region of New York, New Jersey and Connecticut.

“FreshDirect has grown consistently since we launched in New York City eight years ago,” said Rick Braddock, CEO of FreshDirect, which operates a state-of-the-art kitchen and facility in Long Island City, N.Y. “Our core mission is to change our customers’ lives by giving them a superior online shopping experience, and this is another significant milestone as we look to saturate the tri-state area and beyond.”

As well as being available for the first time to residents in Greenwich, Old Greenwich, Cos Cob and Riverside, Conn., the service also now extends to the Westchester communities of Ardsley, Bronxville, Dobbs Ferry, Eastchester, Harrison, Hartsdale, Hastings-on-Hudson, Irvington, Larchmont, Mamaroneck, Mount Vernon, New Rochelle, Pelham, Port Chester, Purchase, Rye, Scarsdale, Tuckahoe, West Harrison, White Plains and Yonkers.

“Many of our current customers in Westchester are former New York City residents who are familiar with us, and we hope to build on that success as we magnify our neighborhood presence,” noted FreshDirect chief marketing and strategy officer Monica Woo.

In other recent FreshDirect news, the company recently launched what it says is the only full-service grocery-shopping iPhone app. Available free to all of its customers, the app is “a complete on-the-go grocery store that delivers FreshDirect’s full product selection and smart features,” according to the e-retailer.
