FreshDirect Buckles Up Food with New Safety Belts

NEW YORK CITY - Regional Online grocer FreshDirect yesterday completed installation of special food safety belts in its fleet of delivery trucks to protect customer orders from bumps in the road.

The online food retailer said the straps, which resemble traditional car seat belts, are the latest step it has taken to ensure every delivery is treated with care.

"From the time an order is placed until it reaches the customer's front door, no one babies your food quite like we do," said Steve Michaelson, president and c.e.o. of FreshDirect.

FreshDirect serves most of Manhattan and locations in Queens, Brooklyn, and the Bronx, as well as parts of New Jersey, Westchester, and Nassau County. It has more than 250,000 customers and has fulfilled nearly 5 million orders since opening for business in September 2002.
