Fresh Market Seeking More Sites in Baltimore
GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Specialty grocer Fresh Market here is still in expansion mode, and one market it is particularly keen on is Baltimore.
The retailer opened its first Baltimore location last month, but c.o.o. Craig Carlock told the Baltimore Business Journal it would like to add more stores in Annapolis and the Baltimore suburbs.
Other grocers that have entered the greater Baltimore market in recent years include Wegmans Food Markets, Inc., Harris Teeter, and Trader Joe's.
Fresh Market now has more than 70 stores in 16 states, mainly in the Southeast and Midwest. The retailer opened 10 new stores last year and anticipates opening 12 to 14 this year and about that many in 2008, according to the Baltimore Business Journal.
Its stores are, on average, 20,000 square feet, and its format is designed to be reminiscent of a European market.
