Fresh & Easy Plans 19 Sacramento Stores Next Year

SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Tesco's Fresh & Easy Neighborhood Market plans to open 19 stores in California's capital next year. The chain also said its performance overall so far in the U.S. overall has been "encouraging," contrary to negative assessments from other sources.

Fresh & Easy c.e.o. Tim Mason discussed the company's latest plans yesterday at one of its planned sites in Sacramento. Other area locations include south Sacramento, Oak Park, Citrus Heights, Elk Grove, Folsom, Rancho Cordova, Rocklin, and Vacaville.

"The Sacramento region is a great fit for us," said Mason. "It's vibrant, fast-growing, and widely known as having one of the most diverse populations in the U.S."

Mason, who was joined by Sacramento mayor Heather Fargo and councilmember Ray Tretheway, also commented on the success of the company's entry into the Western U.S. "We have been very encouraged by the response to our stores thus far," he said. "Every single week brings more good news as sales, customer numbers, and repeat visits are all growing."

Fresh & Easy currently has 55 grocery markets open throughout Southern California and in Nevada and Arizona.
