Fresh & Easy to Open First San Francisco Stores

Fresh & Easy Neighborhood Market has set the opening dates for its first two stores in San Francisco. The first location, at 32nd Avenue and Clement Street, will open June 22. The second store, at 3rd Street and Carroll Avenue, will open Aug. 24.

“We could not be more thrilled with the strong performance of our first 11 stores in northern California, and we’re excited to get our doors open in San Francisco,” said Tim Mason, CEO of El Segundo, Calif.-based Fresh & Easy, a division of U.K. grocer Tesco. “Judging by the fantastic reception we’ve seen from customers throughout the Bay Area, we are certain these stores will also be a hit.”

The new stores will create more than 50 jobs. The company is now accepting applications for positions on its website, at www.freshandeasy.com/joinus. Entry-level positions start at $10 an hour in California and offer quarterly bonuses of up to 10 percent, as well as a 401(k) with company match. Fresh & Easy also provides all employees the opportunity to work at least 20 hours a week, which entitles them to vision, prescription drug, dental and medical coverage with the company paying at least 75 percent of the cost.

For each new store opening, Fresh & Easy also invites neighbors to nominate a local, non-profit organization to receive a $1,000 donation. Based on the nominations, store employees will select the winning charity. Nominations are being accepted for the 32nd Avenue & Clement Street store at www.freshandeasy.com/goodneighbor; nominations for the 3rd Street & Carroll Avenue location will be accepted in July.

Fresh & Easy currently operates 175 stores in California, Arizona and Nevada.
