Fresh & Easy to Open 8 This Week

Fresh & Easy Neighborhood Market opened four new stores last week in California and Arizona, and will open for more stores this week in California, including a site in South Los Angeles.

“We are excited to open in all sorts of different neighborhoods and create even more good-paying, local jobs," said Tim Mason, CEO of the El Segundo, Calif.-based division of U.K. grocer Tesco. “We believe everyone deserves access to fresh, wholesome food at affordable prices.”

So far in 2010, more than 300 Fresh & Easy employees have been hired.

As part of Fresh & Easy’s commitment to be a good neighbor, the company awards a neighborhood charity with a $1,000 donation at each store opening. Winning charities were selected by store staff, based on nominations from neighbors.

In other Fresh & Easy news, the banner has voluntarily withdrawn all date codes of fresh&easy Chewy Chocolate Chip Granola Bars as a result of a recall initiated by Ubly, Mich.-based Thumb Oilseed Producers, which supplies an ingredient that has the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella.

This is the only Fresh & Easy product affected, and there have been no illnesses reported. The recalled products were sold in Fresh & Easy stores in California, Nevada and Arizona.
