Fresh City Market Planned for Purdue Campus

Maurer’s Foods – which owns and operates Fresh Madison Market in downtown Madison, Wis., in the heart of the University of Wisconsin campus -- plans to enhance its collegiate grocery store cred with a second location slated to open in close proximity to the Purdue University campus in West Lafayette, Ind.

Maurer’s new full-service grocery store is proposed for a new development at 720 Northwestern Ave., and will serve Purdue students, faculty, staff and local residents with a full array of fresh foods and groceries at affordable prices.

“We have been researching the Purdue market for a very long time, and we believe we have found a project with a great location, tremendous visibility, and other tenants that share our passion for providing exceptional customer services and products that will complement one another,” said Jeff Maurer, owner of Maurer’s Foods. “We are very excited to bring a different grocery shopping experience, focused on fresh and healthy foods to West Lafayette.”

Highlights of the proposed new Fresh City Market will be fresh sushi, a full-service deli and catering department, a hot and cold bar with a daily menu and on-line shopping and free delivery on orders over $40. Also like the flagship Madison Fresh Market, its new sister store will also have an executive chef on staff who will develop all recipes for the deli, hot bar and catering department.

Maurer’s Foods anticipates hiring up to 110 employees, primarily Purdue students. Because of the development’s pedestrian-friendly plan, it is expected that the majority of customers will arrive on foot, bike or by bus, with ample parking planned to accommodate for each.
