French’s Fields First-Ever Cook-Off

French’s Foods, a division of Parsippany, N.J.-based Reckitt Benckiser Inc., has launched its first-ever LIVE National Cook-Off to encourage home chefs to submit time-saving family recipes. The easy-to-prepare meals must feature at least one French’s product from among the company’s well-known brands, which include French’s® Mustard, French’s® French Fried Onions and French’s® Worcestershire Sauce.

“We realize the current economic climate has more consumers cooking at home,” said Barbara Yaros, Director of Marketing for French’s Food. “As a leader in the consumer packaged goods industry, we wanted to recognize their efforts while highlighting the innovative uses contemporary cooks are finding for our products.”

As well as the grand prize of $25,000, weekly prizes are being awarded based on the number of popular votes a submitted recipe garnered. The weekly winner is promoted on the site until the next week’s winner is revealed. Recipes may be accompanied by an optional photo or video.

After the submission period closes on Oct. 31, the top 20 recipes will then be chosen to advance: 10 by French’s official judging panel and 10 by popular online vote. From Nov. 8 to Nov. 25, the top 20 recipes will be prominently featured on French’s Web site and eligible for the “people’s choice” award, which will be determined by the contestant who gets the most online votes by Nov. 25. The “people’s choice” award winner, in addition to four finalists chosen by the French’s judging panel, will then advance to the LIVE Cook-Off in New York.

The cook-off event will be held in either February or March 2010. Each of the five finalists will receive a two-day/two-night trip to the Big Apple for a chance to win the $25,000 cash grand prize and a six-month supply of French’s products. The four runners up will each receive a new seven-quart Cuisinart Stand Mixer, which has a suggested retail price of $725, and a six-month supply of French’s products.

All recipes will be judged on taste, appearance, creativity and family appeal, with equal weight given to each. In addition to including at least one French’s product, the recipes must have no more than eight ingredients, except for salt, pepper, and water; be able to be prepared and ready to serve in no more than an hour; and must be original and created by the entrant.
