Four Grocery Chains Take Online Reservations for DVD Rentals

NEW YORK - Movie fans who shop at BI-LO, Food World, or Bruno's supermarket in the Southeast, and at Pathmark stores in the Northeast, can now go online to see what DVDs are in stock at any in-store kiosk in the DVDXpress network and reserve the movie of their choice for pickup in those stores.

The service, provided by DVD rental kiosk vendor DVDXpress Inc., based here, allows consumers to reserve their desired DVDs online, then pick them up at stores by swiping credit cards at the kiosks.

"This has the dual benefit of speeding up the rental process at the kiosk," said John Symons, e.v.p. of sales and operations for BI-LO/Bruno's, "and providing certainty that a shopper's favorite movie will be available when he or she makes the trip to the kiosk."

DVDXpress operates over 225 kiosks in 10 states, and has more than 150 kiosks at BI-LO/Bruno's supermarkets.
