Four Gelson's Execs Inducted into CGA Hall of Achievement
SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- Four past and present Gelson's Markets executives were inducted into the California Grocers Association Educational Foundation Hall of Achievement last week during an awards dinner in Glendale, Calif.
The Gelson's honorees were Bob Stiles, president; Bernard Briskin, chairman and c.e.o.; Allan Scharn, retired president, and Bill Roulette, retired s.v.p. of operations.
"These four executives are perfect candidates for this very prestigious food industry award," said CGA president Peter Larkin, who also serves as the foundation's president. "They exemplify all the important qualities of our great industry."
The Hall of Achievement recognizes individuals who have contributed substantially to the benefit and advancement of California's food industry. Nominees must enhance the quality of the state's food industry; demonstrate a commitment to charitable activities and public service programs that enhance the quality of life; participate in major fund-raising campaigns and community charitable events; involve themselves in humanitarian and cultural causes, and enhance community education; and volunteer for charitable and civic programs.
Gelson's Markets was founded in 1951 by brothers Bernard and Eugene Gelson. It is a subsidiary of the Arden Group, a holding company headquartered in Compton, Calif. The retailer operates 17 stores in Southern California under the Gelson's Markets banner and one Mayfair Market store in Hollywood.
