Four in 10 Think Grilled Steak’s Best for Father’s Day

Grilled steak and barbecue ribs are the top meal choices for Dad on Father’s Day, according to a new poll conducted by the American Meat Institute. Over four in 10 respondents, or 42 percent, went with steak and 14 percent opted for barbecue ribs as the items fathers would most enjoy on their special day.

The poll of 1,000 Americans, which was conducted on May 16, additionally found that hamburgers, at 13 percent, rounded out the top three meals. Not surprisingly, meat dishes were dominant choices, while just 2 percent selected veggie burgers. Other meat picks preferred by dads included barbecue chicken, grilled pork chops and grilled lamb chops.

To coincide with the occasion, Washington-based AMI has released a package of new recipes and grilling tips for such creations as Grilled Pork Spareribs, Spicy Lime Glazed Pork Chops, Grilled Chutney Glazed Pork Tenderloin, Greek Lamb Burgers and Italian Beef Kebabs. The package also contains a guide to steak grilling that includes seasoning tips and a time and temperature chart.

“For those who aim to please Dad and Grandpa on June 21, our poll results and accompanying recipes will help you do just that,” said Janet Riley, SVP of public affairs and member services at AMI. “Father’s Day falls on the first day of summer this year, making it a doubly perfect day to fire up the grill and feed Dad his favorite foods.”
