Former Home Depot IT Manager to Lead Fujitsu's Self-Checkout Team

FRISCO, Texas - Retail technology solutions provider Fujitsu Transaction Solutions Inc. yesterday appointed Paul Burel self-checkout strategic marketing leader to develop go-to-market strategies for the vendor's self-checkout solutions, and lead the solution and partner strategy for its self-checkout line of business.

Burel, who has more than 20 years experience in engineering, marketing and management, will report to Peter Wolf, vice president of marketing.

Prior to joining Fujitsu, Burel worked more than 13 years at The Home Depot, most recently serving as senior manager of store operations, where he managed front-end operations for the retailer's 2,100 stores. He was instrumental in spearheading the high-profile business case for the deployment of self-checkout at Home Depot.

"Paul's experience in implementing self-checkout campaigns will be very valuable as we continue to expand our self-checkout presence," said Wolf. "The technology continues to gain popularity in the retail industry, and Paul will help us better understand retailers' needs while we continue to offer the most innovative, easy-to-use self-checkout systems in the industry."

Burel holds a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from Southern Technical Institute, based in Atlanta, as well as management and business leadership studies at the Georgia Institute of Technology.

Fujitsu customers include Canadian Tire, Chevron Corporation, Hallmark, Hannaford Bros., H-E-B, Kroger, Loblaws, Nordstrom, Payless ShoeSource, PetSmart, Regal Cinema, Ross Dress for Less, Staples, Stop & Shop, and The TJX Companies.
