Former Demoulas Food Buyer Sentenced to Federal Prison
BOSTON - A former food buyer for Boston-based Demoulas Supermarkets was sentenced on Wednesday in federal court for receipt of stolen monies and the filing of false U.S. income tax returns, according to the U.S. Attorney's office.
Wayne A. Dick, 55, of Andover, Mass., was sentenced to two years and six months' incarceration, to be followed by two years of supervised release, and a $6,000 fine.
From late 1997 until May 2000, Dick, a long-time food buyer for Demoulas, was involved in the large-scale theft of monies by food brokers and buyers associated with Demoulas Supermarkets that involved more than $800,000 in stolen checks, according to the Attorney. The case involved two related, but independent schemes to steal checks which food manufacturers made out to Demoulas Supermarkets for advertising expenses.
Robert McCarthy, a food broker for Advantage ESM, and Daniel Martin, a former salesman for Kelloggs, previously pleaded guilty to charges relating to their roles in the schemes. Martin was sentenced in December 2002 to three years of probation. McCarthy is awaiting sentencing.
