Former Bashas’ Prez to Lecture at USC Marshall’s Food Industry Management Program
Mike Proulx, the retired president and COO of Chandler, Ariz.-based-based independent grocer Bashas’, Inc., will join the USC Marshall School’s Food Industry Management (FIM) Program as a lecturer for the spring semester.
Proulx will co-teach the “Strategic Planning, Leadership and Management Priorities” course with Robert Hermanns, the director of the program. “Mike brings a solid base of industry experience to the FIM Program,” said Hermanns.
As president of Bashas’, Proulx, a grocery industry expert with lifelong experience, supervised the day-to-day operations of more than 160 stores and 14,000 staff members. He was involved in mergers and acquisitions, union negotiations, and working with state government officials on behalf of his employer.
Proulx, who earned his certificate in Food Industry Management from USC Marshall in 1996, spent 17 years supervising and expanding Bashas’ Northern Division, which is spread across hundreds of miles encompassing Native American reservations, tiny agrarian burgs and burgeoning vacation destinations. He has also traveled extensively and studied the grocery industry domestically and abroad. His industry affiliations include being a member of the Western Association of Food Chains and the Arizona Food Marketing Alliance.
Based in Los Angeles at the University of Southern California, the USC Marshall School’s programs serve nearly 5,000 undergraduate, graduate, professional, and executive-education students, who attend classes in facilities at the main Los Angeles campus, as well as satellite facilities in Irvine, Calif., and San Diego. USC Marshall also operates a Global MBA program in conjunction with Jiao Tong University in Shanghai, China.
