Food Lion Stores Host Diabetes-Friendly Food Tours
SALISBURY, N.C. – Several Food Lion stores in Spartanburg County, S.C. will begin offering tours for persons and families with diabetes today. The free tours are designed to help shoppers identify and locate diabetic-friendly foods, and get tips on healthy cooking and eating.
The chain said the store tours, which will last about one hour, will be hosted by a registered dietician and/or a certified diabetic educator. Food Lion will offer as many as four tours at each store, depending on demand.
Among other objectives, the tours will provide information on how to read and understand nutrition labels, provide an explanation of the food pyramid, and discuss the issues of living with diabetes.
At the conclusion of each tour, participants will receive a free blood glucose monitor and test strips. Food Lion is sponsoring the diabetes-friendly foods tours along with Diabetic Supply Source of Columbia, S.C.
