Food Lion Reveals 2015 CIAA Tournament Week Activities

Food Lion is demonstrating its ongoing support of the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Tournament by sponsoring several popular events, among them the women's basketball tournament, Miss CIAA and Food Lion Day at the CIAA. All events, which will be free of charge, are scheduled to take place from Monday, Feb. 23, through Saturday, Feb. 28, in Charlotte, N.C.

"Our company has been an official corporate sponsor of the CIAA for 21 years," noted Dave Bass, division VP for Food Lion’s central division. "Through this partnership, Food Lion has been able to employ many CIAA students and alumni at its stores, which are in close proximity of CIAA colleges and universities."

The chain kicked off its 2015 CIAA sponsorship activities on Feb. 19 by joining with Johnson C. Smith University to open one of the first student pantries at a CIAA school. Food Lion will team up with another CIAA school the following week to open another pantry. The openings of the pantries are part of the grocer's overall anti-hunger efforts in its stores’ surrounding communities.

The company will once more serve as the title sponsor for the 2015 Food Lion CIAA Women's Basketball Tournament, which runs from Tuesday, Feb. 24 through Saturday, Feb. 28 at Charlotte’s Time Warner Cable Arena.

Food Lion's other sponsorship activities will include the Food Lion Chef Challenge cooking demonstrations and private-brand/national-brand taste challenges on Feb. 26, 27 and 28 at the Charlotte Convention Center; Food Lion Day at the CIAA, with interactive games, premium giveaways and scholarship check presentations, on Friday, Feb. 27 at Time Warner Cable Arena; and the Food Lion Miss CIAA Competition, featuring 12 contestants, on Saturday, Feb. 28 at Time Warner Cable Arena.
