Food Lion Banners Name Contest Winners

Banners of Salisbury, N.C.-based Food Lion LLC have revealed winners of two separate in-store contests. Food Lion presented $5,200 in gift cards, or $100 a week for a year, to Rock Hill, N.C., resident and Food Lion shopper Veronica Nickolaisen last week as the grand-prize winner of the chain’s “Win Free Groceries for a Year Sweepstakes.” Nickolaisen received her prize during a special presentation inside of the Food Lion store on 2260 Cross Pointe Drive in Rock Hill where she does her regular shopping.

During the sweepstakes, which ran from March 23 to April 19, 2011, customers scanned their MVP cards at in-store MVP Savings Centers to get coupons they could use that day. As well as receiving coupons, each participant was automatically entered into the contest. Some shoppers who scanned their MVP cards also instantly won one of more than 200,000 free national and private brand items. Free items were awarded in the form of a coupon.

Nickolaisen was randomly chosen from more than 900,000 customers who received personalized coupons during the month-long contest.

Meanwhile, Food Lion sister banner Harveys Supermarket, which operates about 71 stores in Georgia, Florida and South Carolina, awarded up to $1,000 in store gift cards to five of its customers for taking part in its “Hometown Educational Rewards” program. The initiative enables parents and supporters to link their Harveys Hometown Rewards Key to up to two local schools. Each time a customer shops with her personal Rewards Key, her preferred school automatically earns points toward its share of $250,000 in free educational equipment. Customers were entered into the contest after they bought certain items and scanned their personal Rewards keys.

Grand-prize winner Mozelle Yawn of Hazelhurst, Ga., won a $1,000 Harveys gift card and an iPod Shuffle. The other winners were Deana Bibb, of Sandersville, Ga., who won a $500 Harveys gift card and an iPod shuffle; Tammy Griffin, of Tifton, Ga., who won a $250 Harveys gift card and an iPod shuffle; Tiffany Branch, of Hazlehurst, Ga., who won a $125 Harveys gift card and an iPod shuffle.; and Bobbie Purser, of Brunswick, Ga., who won a $125 Harveys gift card and an iPod shuffle. All of the winners received their prizes at a presentation at their regular Harveys location.

The Food Lion family employs about 74,000 associates in 11 Southeast and Mid-Atlantic states.
