Food City to Give to Santa Train Express
ABINGDON, Va. - K-VA-T Food Stores here is working once again with the Kingsport, Tenn. Chamber of Commerce to deliver gifts to children in the heart of Southern Appalachia via the Santa Train Express. This year marks the 64th journey for the train, which travels along a 110-mile train route between Shelby, Ky., and Kingsport.
The Santa Train runs through areas where many underprivileged children live, distributing Christmas gifts that range from candy to dolls to knitted gloves.
On Nov. 15, more than 50 volunteers will sort more than 15 tons of gifts, toys, clothing, and candies donated throughout the year by Food City and other businesses and individuals from across the country. The items will then be loaded onto the Santa Train for delivery on Nov. 17.
When the train returns on Nov. 18, Santa will be on board for the annual Kingsport Christmas Parade.
The Santa Train is an annual project of CSX Transportation, Food City, and the Kingsport Chamber.
