Fleming Names Executive VP and President, Wholesale
DALLAS - Fleming Companies Inc. on Wednesday announced William May has been promoted to executive VP and president, wholesale. May succeeds Steve Davis, who will retire from Fleming after 43 years of service.
May has served as senior VP of operations for Fleming since 2002. He joined Fleming from The Gap where he was the VP of Gap Global Distribution. May also held the role of VP of Old Navy Distribution. Prior to joining The Gap, May was executive VP/COO at Nash Finch Company. May has also served in leadership positions with Spartan Stores and Certified Grocers of Florida.
The company said that Davis will remain involved in the organization through May 1, 2003, and will be active in supporting the transition to his successor.
"Throughout his career, Steve has played a central role in building Fleming into a national distribution company and the leader within our industry," said Fleming chairman and CEO Mark Hansen. "Steve has been an instrumental part of our company during decades of dramatic industry change. Steve's impact on our company and the industry itself has been significant and his long-planned retirement is certainly well earned."
Fleming also announced on Tuesday the election of Randall (Randy) D. Mott to its Board of Directors. Mott, 46, is senior VP and chief information officer for Dell.
Hansen said that one of Fleming?s core initiatives is to leverage technology to drive costs out of its supply chain and fuel efficiency across the enterprise. "Randy is an outstanding addition to our board, with more than 25 years of success in these core areas and the leadership skills to help us drive this strategy," he said.
Prior to Dell, Mott spent 22 years with Wal-Mart Stores, where he earned a reputation for developing and implementing state-of-the-art retail and supply chain automation. In 1994, Mott was named global CIO for Wal-Mart, and he played an active and leading industry role, as co-vice-chairman of the Voluntary Inter-industry Commerce Standards (VICS) Board, a position that he still holds today.
