Farmer Jack President Steps Down

MONTVALE, N.J. -- Mike Carter, who served as president of A&P's troubled Midwest division, Farmer Jack, for three years, resigned Friday. He did not disclose his future plans.

According to press reports, Carter had told the parent company of his decision earlier this year, but had agreed to stay on to help A&P prepare for the sale of the division, according to reports. (A&P did not return a call placed on Friday by Progressive Grocer.) A&P announced in May that it planned to sell the chain.

The company was most recently in talks with Grand Rapids-based Spartan Stores Inc., but those negotiations broke off last week.
