Farm Boy Merges H.R. and Customer Service into Single Initiative

OTTAWA, CANADA - Community-based Ontario-based independent Farm Boy Inc. yesterday has created a new people services department that blends the functions of human resources and customer service.

"It is very clear to us that the companies which are able to achieve outstanding customer service do it by focusing on their people," said Donny Milito president of 8-unit Farm Boy. "[They make] sure they have the right tools to do their jobs well, including having effective training programs, managers who monitor and coach for service, clear policies and procedures, and good communication programs"

Building on an existing strong 'people' foundation established by human resources, and combining its on-going commitment to provide "outstanding customer service," the company said it made a strategic decision to merge the two departments and create a people services department with the goal of better serving customers.

Marilyn Currie will lead the new department, the company said. She has more than 25 years industry experience in service management consulting, most recently as president of Currie MacLean Inc.

"Currie helped senior management teams focus and define their customer service strategies, delivered innovative learning and communication employee programs, as well as implemented practical service management tools to achieve continuous service improvement," said Milito.

Farm Boy operates eight stores in the Greater Ottawa and Cornwall regions.
