Fans Urged to Sing for Their Oreo Cakesters

The question of whether to dunk Oreo Cakesters in milk, as fans of the original version of the venerable sandwich cookie brand often do, has given rise to a spirited debate among Oreo eaters on Facebook. To clear up the matter, Oreo Cakesters has recruited “American Idol” season 8 contestants Anoop Desai (a Dunker) and Matt Giraud (a Non-Dunker) to encourage consumers to express their feelings on the subject in song.

Desai and Giraud have both recorded their own a cappella versions of a new Oreo Cakesters jingle as part of the first-ever Oreo Cakesters Jingle Contest. Now through April 5, 2010, Oreo fans can submit their own takes on the tune for the chance to win a trip to professionally record the jingle to air on national radio, and meet either singer.

Fans can visit Facebook.com/Oreo to choose their side and download either the Dunker or Non-Dunker jingle lyrics. Groups of up to four people may create a video of themselves performing the jingle in their own way. Entries must include Cakesters, and fans are urged to demonstrate how they dunk or don’t dunk their favorite cookies within the video.

Three finalists will be chosen to represent each side of the issue and posted online for America to help select the performers they like best. The one Dunker submission and one Non-Dunker entry with the most votes will get to hear their respective covers of the new jingle over the airwaves.

Oreo Cakesters, made by Northfield, Ill.-based Kraft Foods, are available in four varieties: Original, Peanut Butter and Golden and Double Stuf.
