Famima Removes Trans Fat from Desserts, MSG from Sushi
TORRANCE, Calif. - Asian-style convenience-store operator Famima said it has eliminated all trans fat from its pastries, sweets, and handmade desserts, and MSG from its fresh sushi, in an effort to provide its shoppers with healthy choices and the highest quality of food.
"Most people love desserts but always feel guilty about indulging," said Famima's president Shiro Inoue. "By removing trans fat we are helping our customers feel less guilty about enjoying the finer things in life."
In addition to removing MSG from its sushi, the retailer now offers offering brown rice as an additional sushi selection.
Famima has also introduced gourmet coffee bars at six stores featuring premium Allegro brand coffee.
Famima operates 12 locations in the Southern California cities of Santa Monica, Culver City, West Hollywood, downtown Los Angeles, and Pasadena. The retailer is operated by FamilyMart Co., Ltd., which operates a network of 13,122 convenience stores throughout Japan, China, Taiwan, Thailand, South Korea, and the United States.
