Family Dollar Said to Pay $69,000 in EEOC Settlement
MATTHEWS, N.C. -- National discount chain Family Dollar Stores, Inc. has agreed to pay $69,000 to settle a lawsuit filed on behalf of a paraplegic former employee, according a report in the Charlotte Business Journal.
The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission charged that Family Dollar rejected a request for accommodation that would have granted the employee, who uses a wheelchair, access to a restroom at its store on Cherry Road in Rock Hill, S.C.
Family Dollar also failed to promote Brown to assistant manager because of his disability and forced him to resign, according to the EEOC.
Family Dollar has more than 6,200 stores in 44 states.
