Family Dollar Promotes CFO to President and COO Slot
MATTHEWS, N.C. -- Discount retailer Family Dollar Stores, Inc. said yesterday it promoted R. James Kelly to the position of president and chief operating officer. Kelly, 59, joined the company as vice chairman - chief financial and chief administrative officer in January 1997.
In his new role, Kelly will be responsible for overseeing all business operations of the company, including store operations, merchandising, real estate, supply chain, and technology functions.

The company has begun a search for a new c.f.o. Kelly will continue to serve as c.f.o. until the position is filled.
