Exclusive Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream Flavors Come to Target

Target Corp. is rolling out this week at all stores nationwide two new exclusive Ben & Jerry’s ice cream flavors celebrating volunteerism. The super-premium flavors, Berry Voluntary, a raspberry-cheesecake-flavored ice cream featuring white chocolate chunks and raspberry swirls, and Brownie Chew Gooder, a vanilla caramel ice cream with fudge brownie pieces and a caramel swirl, will be available at the Minneapolis-based retailer throughout 2010 in mini cups for $1.25 and pints for $3.50, although pricing, promotion and availability may vary by location and online.

“By partnering with the iconic and beloved Ben & Jerry’s, Target is offering our guests even more exclusive, high-quality food options,” said Target SVP, merchandising Greg Duppler. “Target guests who purchase these new ice cream products will not only enjoy two delicious flavors at an exceptional price, but will also have the satisfaction of supporting two great brands, aligned in their strong heritage of philanthropy and volunteerism.”

The delicious result of a collaboration illustrating both companies’ extensive year-round volunteerism efforts, Berry Voluntary and Brownie Chew Gooder were specifically developed to spur Target shoppers to volunteer in their local communities through a special promotion dubbed “Scoop it Forward.” Visitors to www.VolunteerMatch.org/scoopitforward will find volunteer opportunities in their neighborhoods. After registering for a particular volunteer activity, and forwarding that opportunity to five friends, the original volunteer and each of his or her friends will receive a coupon for a free pint of Ben & Jerry’s ice cream, redeemable at Target stores, while supplies last. After that time, shoppers will still be able to take part in the promotion, and will receive a $1-off coupon in recognition of their service to the community.

“Giving back to the community has been a part of Ben & Jerry’s way of doing business since we started,” observed Jerry Greenfield, co-founder of South Burlington, Vt.-based Ben & Jerry’s. “We are impressed with the number of ways Target has given back to the community over the years. Working with Target to encourage people to volunteer in their own communities is the kind of partnership that we hope generates a lot of community benefits. We hope ice cream lovers also take advantage of the Scoop it Forward program on VolunteerMatch.com, to recognize their volunteer efforts.”

Target operates 1,740 stores in 49 states nationwide and Target.com.
