Ex-Brookshire Brothers Exec Named Duckwall-ALCO C.F.O.

ABILENE, Kan. -- Nonfood retailer Duckwall-ALCO Stores, Inc. said yesterday that Donny Johnson has joined as s.v.p. and c.f.o. Johnson, who has over 20 years of financial management experience in the retailing, most recently served as e.v.p. and c.f.o. at the Lufkin, Texas-based Brookshire Brothers Food & Pharmacy supermarket chain.

At Brookshire Brothers, he oversaw the company's successful transition from more than 80 years of family ownership to a 100 percent employee-owned company. Johnson was Brookshire Brothers for 13 years.

Before joining Brookshire Brothers, Johnson spent nearly seven years at Scrivner, Inc., a grocery wholesaler and retailer acquired by Fleming Cos. in 1994. Early in his career he worked for several years in the Oklahoma City office of Arthur Andersen & Co.

"He is a seasoned financial executive whose knowledge and experience will add to our depth of management and assist the Company as we execute our growth plans," noted Duckwall-ALCO president and c.e.o. Bruce Dale in a statement.

Johnson will start in his new job Aug. 1.

Selling such items as crafts, electronics, fabrics, furniture, and hardware, Duckwall-ALCO operates 255 stores in 21 states.
