Everybody Loves Albertsons' New Spokesperson

BOISE, Idaho - Albertsons Inc. announced today that Patricia Heaton, actress, author and Emmy-winning co-star of television's "Everybody Loves Raymond," will become the company's national spokesperson. She will be featured in Albertsons advertising, beginning with national TV spots that will start airing in late June 2003.

"Albertsons is entering the most exciting growth period in its 63-year history. Patricia Heaton provides the instantly recognizable voice, humor and personality that will enable us to bring key messages to supermarket and drugstore customers that shop our 2,300 stores across America," said chairman & CEO Larry Johnston.

Johnson said the company aims to establish itself as the only food and drug retailer that is truly working hard to make life easier for today's consumers.

Heaton has signed a multi-year contract with Albertsons and will soon appear in consumer-focused television and radio commercials featuring several of the company's strongest banners.

"Diet, nutrition, health care and budget-planning are critically important to all of us, and they are issues that form the very core of the services at our neighborhood food and drug stores," Heaton said. "I am proud Albertsons has chosen me to bring their message to the public."

Johnston said details of the company's new customer-focused marketing program and its central theme will be announced next week. The campaign will be aimed primarily at Albertsons' target audience -- women, aged 25-54, with children.
