Edmonton to Get Second Giant Tiger Store

WINNIPEG, Manitoba -- The North West Co. (NWC) here said yesterday it will open a second Giant Tiger store in Edmonton, Alta., bringing NWC's store total in the province to five. The company currently already has a store in Edmonton, in addition to locations in Grande Prairie, Calgary, and Medicine Hat. The second Edmonton store, which will measure 18,000 square feet, is scheduled to open Feb. 24, 2007.

NWC and Giant Tiger have a 30-year master franchise agreement granting NWC the exclusive right to open and operate 72 Giant Tiger stores in western Canada.

Said NWC president and c.e.o. Edward Kennedy in a statement: "Giant Tiger offers customers a unique mix of current fashion merchandise at outstanding prices, combined with on-trend home products and fantastic food values. Our stores are local, convenient, and all-Canadian. Overall, we believe this is a winning offer for shoppers in Edmonton and across the West."

Privately held Giant Tiger operates 172 locations in Ontario, Quebec, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta, and New Brunswick. NWC operates 200 stores in rural communities and urban neighborhoods across Canada and Alaska under a number of banners, among them Northern, NorthMart, Giant Tiger, and AC Value Center, and offers catalog shopping services through its Selections catalog in northern Canada.
