Economies of Scale

Hobart’s new PS40 price computing scale was designed as a versatile, cost-effective weighing solution for retailers.

According to Troy, Ohio-based Hobart, the battery-operated PS40, which also works on AC power, can quickly and accurately weigh and price products, allowing customers to see their purchase price before the sale is finalized. It also weighs exact ingredient amounts for a multitude of recipes or portion sizes for grocery stores and restaurants.

“The ease of use and precision of the PS40 provides our customers with a compact, cost-effective solution,” said Tim Peters, product line manager for retail systems at Hobart. “The PS40 is ideally suited to weigh and price a broad variety of products such as meat, cheese, seafood, fruits and vegetables, coffee, or candy. Because the footprint is small, it also makes an ideal counter scale for measuring ingredients or portion sizes.”

The scale has an audio feedback feature for operators to verify each key stoke entered, as well as two visible backlit displays -- one in the rear of the scale for the operator and one in the front for the customer -- for monitoring individual transactions. The PS40’s large membrane keypad and stainless steel weighing platter were designed so that the scale is easy to clean and durable.

The PS40 can operate between 14 degrees Fahrenheit and 104 degrees Fahrenheit, making it useable indoors and outdoors, and has a programmable memory bank of 50 PLUs for storing pricing information and 12 speed keys for quick item lookup.

Additionally, the PS40 can be shipped pre-calibrated direct to the retailer, with no additional installation or on-site calibration services required.
