‘Eat Shrimp’ FB Page Books 75,000th Fan

Thanks to the success of the 2013 “Shrimp & Pasta Party!” promotion, which concluded Easter Sunday, the number of fans of The Shrimp Council’s Eat Shrimp Facebook page has vaulted past 75,000, the Council reported today.

“It’s been an exciting way to start the year, fueled by so many people across the country who’ve jumped at the chance to profess their love of shrimp and share their favorite ways to serve shrimp with pasta,” said Judy Dashiell, SVP at the National Fisheries Institute, which manages the Eat Shrimp site on Facebook. “In the past seven weeks alone, we’ve nearly doubled our total fans on Facebook, thanks primarily to the Shrimp & Pasta Party! It’s been great exposure for America’s No. 1 seafood.”

The second annual Shrimp & Pasta Party! program, conducted this year in partnership with Old Bay Seasoning, has accounted for more than 34,000 new “Likes” for Eat Shrimp since the beginning of the promotion on Feb. 13.

This year’s promotion featured an interactive recipe contest that encouraged fans to come up with creative pasta-and-shrimp meal options. Eat Shrimp and Old Bay are awarding $100 grocery store gift cards and Old Bay prize packs to the five winners selected at the conclusion of the contest.

The Mclean, Va.-based Shrimp Council aims to promote shrimp as a nutritious and delicious protein, sourcing sustainable shrimp from around the globe for Americans to enjoy at home and in restaurants.
